Ergonomics: "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!"

Matt McNulty and I went on a "Rickey Ricon" mission to practice using the ergonomics checklist. We checked, measured and critiqed our own desks in the classroom, checked the desk setups in the library/computer room here at Milton, and attacked the instructors throne - I mean desk / work area. The results are posted in the blog, but for clarification, and per the assignment requirement:
Our desks pretty much failed. The computers are located perfectly; the desks are too high by four inches; monitors are too far away by four inches; my monitor is too high, and if I adjust the chair I - don't fit under the keyboard shelf; other than that, its all good.
The library desks are 29.5" which is not really that bad; monitor from face distance is 27", three inches out; keyboards are fine; adjustable chairs, OK; lighting is fair except for the windows behind the work areas. The sun reflects off the building across the yard and blinds the users.
The instructors desk seemed to be the best situation, as it should be, no wrist rest, and no foot rests. The stool has rest bars for the feet to make up for the other. When asked, the end user (instructor) stated being very happy in his new home.
As far as suggesting a fix for the problems, I can think of many, but this is after all a college under budget, and what can we say. It is what it is.
Thanks for dropping by again, hope you find this info informative, and have a wonderful day.
Happy computing!
