Types of WLAN Client Devices

This blog is about Wireless LAN devices. I’ve been searching and trying to find something different than computers, phones, and tablets. So I punched in WLAN client devices and came up with an advertisement for ON-Star with 4G LTE. Now I hope this idea fits the requirement as a device for this topic. The ad is of course probably more directed as a car sales technique, but the idea of having a hot-spot in the car was intriguing to say the least. Imagine driving down the road, all connected to the web and having your access point fail on you. How could you find your way to the nearest repair shop. Which, all joking aside, brings up the time we drove past the church twice because we were following Garmin. Of course the honest side of this story is that I’ve never learned how to read the device, so of course we got lost. Naturally if we had a paper road map, we would have gotten there much earlier.
My next tale will be about computers, PCs which I have built. “Back in the Day”, I assembled a computer with the help of a friend. I don’t recall having wireless devices then, we used the good old Ethernet. Connection was easy, but being inexperienced about the new technology, we had DSL from the phone line, and being in a college town and not a student, the connection was lost after short use. The lines were supposedly dedicated to the students, and anyone else was out of luck. My new computer has wireless, and after trying to connect it the net, I realized that the motherboard didn’t have an on board network card. I did some research and ordered a Network adaptor. When it came in the mail, it was the wrong card. So after more research, and asking someone who knows, I was able to install the correct card and connect to the router here at the house. The wireless is by far superior to the Ethernet because I now have three to four computers, and my printer connected to the net.

I hope this blog makes the grade. It was a hard starter, but was fun to do, and a good learning experience for me.
